Cress

Cress is the third novel in Marissa Meyer's The Lunar Chronicles, were we reunite with much-loved characters like Cinder, Kai, Scarlet, Wolf, Thorne and Iko. A new set of characters enter the story, like Jacin, Princess Winter and, of course, Cress, and we dive right into action from the very first page. Cinder is still the galaxy's most-wanted criminal, closely followed by Dr. Erland and Thorne. She is still searching for answers about her past but takes a detour to save Cress, a Lunar shell imprisoned in a satellite orbiting around Earth. Unfortunately, the rescue doesn't go as smoothly as either Cinder or the rest of her little gang of misfits want. She has to leave space, return to Earth and see no other option then to go to Africa to meet up with Dr. Erland. While there she gets ready to overthrow the Lunar Queen Levana and does her best to come up with a plan to stop the royal wedding between the Queen and Emperor Kai, something he said yes to so there could be a stop on the wolf-hybrid attack Levana launched against Earth. But even if Cinder wants nothing more than to rid Earth and Luna of Queen Levana, she can't do it alone and everyone knows it' a suicide mission to stand up to the Queen. But if no one does it, they're all doomed anyway.

The third installment in the series is, for me, the best one. Cinder grows a lot as a person, as does Kai and Thorne. Scarlet finds out a lot about herself and Wolf shows time and time again which side he stands on. The new girl, Cress, is socially awkward and shy, but also curious. She brings a lot to the story and has a very sweet innocence that I loved from the first chapter. Levana is meaner than ever and the peaceful bond between Earth and Luna has probably never been so fragile as it is now. We are on the brink of something huge and it will all go down in the final installment, Winter (out in November). I look forward to a conclusion with both happiness and dread. Happiness, because I’m very excited to see what happens next. Dread, because I have a very strong feeling that Meyer have more than one plot-twist up her sleeve and I’m a little frighten of who else will have to be sacrificed in order to reach the happily ever after I really hope arrives.
